چکیده

The present work is addressed to defects and boundaries in quantum field theory considering the application to AdS/CFT correspondence. We examine interactions of fermions with spins localised on these boundaries. Therefore, an algebra method is emphasised adding reflection and transmission terms to the canonical quantisation prescription. This method has already been applied to bosons in two space-time dimensions before. We show the possibilities of such reflection-transmission algebras in two, three, and four dimensions. We compare with models of solid state physics as well as with the conformal field theory approach to the Kondo effect. Furthermore, we discuss ansatzes of extensions to lattice structures.

Purely Transmitting Integrable Defects * )

Some aspects of integrable field theories possessing purely transmitting defects are described. The main example is the sine-Gordon model and several striking features of a classical field theory containing one or more defects are pointed out. Similar features appearing in the associated quantum field theory are also reviewed briefly. 1 Classical picture The context of this topic is two-dimensi...

اثرات بس ذره‌ای در مایعات الکترونی ابعاد کم

This review article is about the role of electron-electron interactions in low dimensional systems and its transport properties in nano-structures. It begins with a review of the pair-distribution function theory of electron liquid systems taking into account the electron-electron interactions. We extend the theory for highly correlated system such two- and one-dimensional electron liquids. We...

Topological Defects on the Lattice I: The Ising model

In this paper and its sequel, we construct topologically invariant defects in two-dimensional classical lattice models and quantum spin chains. We show how defect lines commute with the transfer matrix/Hamiltonian when they obey the defect commutation relations, cousins of the Yang-Baxter equation. These relations and their solutions can be extended to allow defect lines to branch and fuse, aga...

Semiclassical decay of topological defects

Perturbative estimates suggest that extended topological defects such as cosmic strings emit few particles, but numerical simulations of the fields from which they are constructed suggest the opposite. In this paper we study the decay of the two-dimensional prototype of strings, domain walls in a simple scalar theory, solving the underlying quantum field theory in the Hartree approximation. We ...

Quantum Field Theories and Critical Phenomena on Defects

We construct and investigate quantum fields induced on a d-dimensional dissipationless defect by bulk fields propagating in a d + 1dimensional space. All interactions are localized on the defect. We derive a unitary non-canonical quantum field theory on the defect, which is analyzed both in the continuum and on the lattice. The universal critical behavior of the underlying system is determined....
